Our journey from civilian life to military life and back again:

Hubby had served in the Army for 7 years, but got out a few years before we met. We met while teaching SCUBA diving together. I spent several years as a Divemaster helping instructors teach classes and spending as much time as possible in the water. During that time, Rob and I met, hit it off, and worked with each other for a long time before realizing there is no better person to spend the rest of your life with than your best friend.

During those 8 years of civilian life we:

  • Continued to teach SCUBA for a while
  • Both worked in the IT field and at a favorite coffee shop
  • Struggled with infertility
  • Had a miracle baby
  • Had a medically necessary hysterectomy
  • Taught Sunday School & Bible studies
  • Almost moved to Mexico (interesting story!)
  • Lost loved ones
  • Lost jobs and watched God provide for many months
  • Were foster parents
  • Started homeschooling
  • Went through a failed adoption
  • Grew by leaps and bounds in our faith!

In 2010, we felt the Lord leading Rob to get back in the Army and for our family to become a military family. After months of prayer, we took the leap of faith and followed God. Throughout the years, we’ve never had any doubt this was where God called us to be. It hasn’t always been easy, but we’ve seen God’s hand on our journey every step of the way.

We are currently counting the days until retirement at the end of 2024. As we prepare to make this big change, we know God is in control and is always with us wherever we go.

During our military life years, we:

  • Lived in NC, MD, GA, NC again, & TX
  • Went through an unaccompanied tour to Korea for a year (That means Rob went, and we stayed behind)
  • Met countless new friends all over the country
  • Enjoyed seeing new places and new cultures
  • Learned a whole new language full of Army acronyms (Ok, that was just me!)
  • Have said many sad goodbyes to friends because either they moved or we did
  • Dealt with Rob being gone for deployment & so, so many TDYs (Temporary Duty) that took him away for weeks or months at a time.
  • Started life completely over in 5 different places so far
  • Been reunited with military friends as we cross paths again in new places
  • Been thankful we are homeschoolers with all those moves
  • Watched our daughter grow in amazing ways and graduate high school
  • Lived in our RV for 3 1/2 years & loved it!
  • Have grown in our faith more and more as we depend on God through it all

These days we stay busy enjoying family time, plugging in to our current duty station & local city, and enjoying our hobbies.

I’m glad you are here and I hope you enjoy following along on our roller coaster of life!
