Hey guys, this is Rob. I want to tell you about a book I think you should all read. If you’re looking for the book, the mountain cover is the previous edition, and the orange cover is the latest edition.
This book Wild at Heart by John Eldredge speaks directly to men, from a man. I first read it many years ago, after it was recommended to me by a friend. It gave me a sense of understanding about myself and who God called me to be.
The book explains that as men, we seek adventure because we are created for it. We innately want to do crazy and wild things. Look at most young boys and you know what I’m talking about. We want to slay dragons and win the heart of our princess. Our souls come alive when we are surrounded by nature, whether at the ocean or in the woods.
We want to do hard things, and WIN! But often we don’t pursue this adventurous life like we should, and this book talks about why we don’t and why we should.
I liked this book so much I read it again for a second time, and then asked Stacy to read it, so she could better understand the man I felt God was calling me to be. She said it was helpful for realizing the unique role that God gives to men and has recommended it to many wives over the years.
We came to see that God has adventures for us to chase. Specifically for our family, God used this book in His perfect timing to prepare us right before he called me to re-enlist in the Army. After I was out for 13 years, He prepared our family to begin life as a military family.
I’m not saying that God’s intent is for every man to join the military, but He does have specific adventures in mind for you. He has plans for you that will stretch your comfort zone, make you rely on Him, and blow your mind with the journeys He will take you on.
I highly recommend that both you and your wife read Wild at Heart with open hearts and minds to listen to God and see what He has in store for you. He is calling you to follow Him as He leads your family through you. Listen to Him and surrender to His will. By letting His desires become your desires, you and your family will grow closer to Him, and you will see Him do some amazing things in your life.
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.”
Proverbs 3:5-6
“For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand so that we would walk in them.”
Ephesians 2:10
